Breaking: Why Former President Goodluck Jonathan Was Arrested - Buhari

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has made a press release stating reasons for the recent arrest of the Former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan today in Abuja. President Muhammadu Buhari had directed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) to detain the former president for questioning on allegations involving him.

A great and transparent leader" President Muhammadu Buhari. Calling words by their names without compromise. A man of Integrity". Thanking God for bringing you to the seat of power, especially this critical times in our Nations economy. "There is HOPE". God Bless Nigeria

Several top officials who served under Mr. Jonathan, as well as his political associates in the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, are currently being tried, or investigated by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission, for corruption.

A major case involves a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, accused of diverting $2.1 billion arms money, and sharing same to politicians and cronies of the former president.

According to investigators, Mr. Dasuki said he was authorized by Mr. Jonathan to release the money for the nation’s security programmes, and for the 2015 presidential campaign. The spokesperson for the PDP, Olisa Metuh, also said he received payment from Mr. Dasuki after carrying out some assignments for the former president. While we await further confirmation on this, See Video.

Those claims have raised questions regarding whether Mr. Jonathan, whom Mr. Buhari assured during transfer of power in 2015, that he had nothing to fear, would face prosecution should it be proven he has a case to answer.

  3. Nigeria is a nation of Ironies. if PMB is sincere about the fight against corruption, let him go outside the PDP group and take others. IBB, Tinubu, Rochas and others in APC who were lords of corruption should also be taken in by EFCC. A dictiator who wants to claim transperancy. Look at the 2016 budget, it is indicative of their corruptive tendecies.

    1. My Anonymous what is the result of his change. Are we seeing change or change? him becoming president does not shame us, rather shame goes to those that voted him in. God is not a God of the majority, but of faithful few. Few of us said NO, but majority said yes. Just like King saul who was chosen by popular demand against God's wish.

  8. Wisdom is always profitable to direct in every situation. You are sending a message to Nigerians and other politicians who mean well for this country for arresting Former President Goodluck Jonathan. If this honourable man did not hand over power to you remember this country would have been in mess today and that may have affected you too.I am in support of the fight against corrupt leaders and politicians. But corruption did not start with Jonathan,so arrest all former leaders who were part of this,if not Mr President it will be bias to arrest Jonathan.Your reasons for doing that could read, the fact that he is from the minority.Sir it is not about your ad ant will to fight corruption to the core for that make mind to touch those who seems to be untouched but acting wisely. So that you wont fall into the same ditch your party member dug.

  9. The writer of this article is a fool you called Buhari a transparent leader what is your yardstick in the current loots recovery how much has he told us was recovered who and who recovered what so far has he told us how much money he met in the treasure when he took over and how much we have at hand giving the populace quart ally account is not part of tramsperency or is the arrest of political opponent part of transparency why has he not asked the EFCC to investigate Amechi who has a petition against him for squandering of state money to the tune of over 6bn naira or is that money not part of stollen loots that should be recovered

  10. Nigerians, let us be very objective and stop deceiving ourselves or being parochial and sentimental. Those of you calling on other peoples' arrest, Have you come up with any fact against them? If you have, expose them. Whoever is mentioned in any shady deal should be arrested and investigated. We are all suffering for these tribalism and parochialism. Even the self acclaimed men of God have cases to answer. Face fact and stop the sentiments!

  11. it is quite unfortunate that buhari is trying to bring anarchy into this country by arresting DR JONATHAN, is he not the same buhari that transported 5b naira last friday to sponsor rivers rerun election on behalf of apc?.

Let us not deceive our ourselves as buhari is a fulani and they can never be trusted when he told us that he met empty treasure but Obasanjo came out few days ago to tell him to shut up because Dr Jonathan left a whopping 30b dollars for him.
Buharia or what ever you call yourself, think twice and use your tongue to count your teeth before it is too late after all you have not told us how you spend your days as chairman of special trust fund. beware cos he who kill by gun must surely die by gun, period

I am not a nigerian but i catch interest in the nigerian politics because that beautiful country represents the black world , especially africa . From the way you sound in your comments , is like you have issues with the ibos or the eastners , that kind of thinking can not take nigeria further . i strongly will say that economically the Buhari and the APC led government has failed completely and i think his actions on fighting corruptions are very timely especially If he uses his powers very fairly and to the interest of the nigerian people. However Jonathan carried nigerian economy very high , to be the no 1 africa nation , strengthening democracy , human rights and freedom of expressions and his development agenda was very sustainable , so i challenge Buhari to work seriously on the nigrian economy which MAY be very catastrophic in 2017/18 ,consider corruption a national affair not only Goodluck and the PDP. Personally if the hidden wealth of the former president Abacha is still making waves then , the others like IBB, Obasanjo , Buhari ,etc should also be investigated . thanks

  17. Truly this corruption has started a long way and not from the throne of former president Goodluck,if truly PMB want to fight corruption , i think he should fight it from the beginning of our top leader's like OBJ,IBB and so on and so on cos they know all of them and i would want you all fellow nigeria to just listen to our great, brother, father and freedom fighter Fela Anikulapo Ransome Kuti has said in his music that the corrupted leader's are still there now now now and this music has been sang over 20 yrs ago, obj arrange the election very well and brought the past leader's who has destroy nigeria to be elected again as our president and all of them are still there now now now, them they there now now now, them they there now now now

  19. Guys, I think we are all just being sentimental rather than being subjective and objective,it is very obvious that corruption started a long time ago but lets be realistic, how many of our leaders had the guts to probe his predecessor, the answer is emphatically NONE......If PMB could take a bold step to do so now i think it a step in the right direction, it will or may bring out a chain reaction that will or may lead to the arrest of all other past president......can we just open our eyes to see deeper????/ common guys

  20. I HOPE THIS TURNS OUT WELL FOR THE GREAT FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA. I REALLY FEAR FOR YOU. WE MUST BE OBJECTIVE IN OUR ENDEAVOURS AND BE SEEN AS SUCH, FOR ANY BIAS WILL LIKELY TRIGGER UNPLEASANT CONSEQUENCES. HOWEVER, CORRUPTION MUST BE COMBATTED AT ALL LEVELS, IRRESPECTIVE OF POLITICAL LEANINGS, ETHNIC ORIGINS, RELIGIOUS BELIEF OR SOCIETAL STANDING.
